How the result works
What this canthal tilt calculator actually measures
FaceRating.me separates the visible measurements from the interpretation, so you can see what produced the result instead of receiving a mystery score.
inner and outer eye-corner coordinates
both inner-to-outer eye angles in degrees
average visible canthal tilt and direction
What you get
Both measured eye angles, their average in degrees, and a positive, neutral or negative reading.
Canthal tilt explained
What is canthal tilt?
Canthal tilt is the angle of the line between the inner canthus and outer canthus—the visible inner and outer corners of an eye. A canthal tilt calculator measures that line in degrees instead of asking you to judge it by eye.
When the outer corner appears higher than the inner corner, the direction is positive. Corners that appear close to level are neutral, while an outer corner that appears lower produces a negative angle. These labels describe geometry in a photo; they are not beauty grades, diagnoses, or recommendations.
FaceRating.me calculates both eyes separately before showing the average. That makes a head tilt, uneven expression, or natural left-right difference easier to spot instead of hiding it inside one number.
Formula and direction
How the canthal tilt detector measures eye angle
The detector identifies each eye’s inner and outer corner landmarks. For each eye, it calculates the vertical change between those points relative to their horizontal distance, then converts the result from radians to degrees.
Eye angle
atan2(Δy, |Δx|) × 180 ÷ π
The sign records whether the outer eye corner is above or below the inner corner.
Two readings
Eye A + Eye B
Both angles remain visible so a large side-to-side difference is not concealed.
Summary
(Eye A + Eye B) ÷ 2
The average determines the positive, neutral, or negative reading shown by this tool.
Above 7°
Strong positive
The outer eye corners sit visibly higher than the inner corners in this photo.
Above 1° to 7°
Positive
The measured eye-corner line slopes upward toward the outside of the face.
−1° to 1°
Neutral
The inner and outer eye corners appear close to level in the current photo.
Below −1°
Negative
The measured eye-corner line slopes downward toward the outside of the face.
These thresholds are transparent display bands used by this online checker, not universal clinical norms. Camera roll, head position, eyelid movement, and lens perspective can change the apparent angle.
Photo setup
How to determine canthal tilt from a photo
- 01Use a straight-on photo with the camera near eye level and the head neither tilted nor turned.
- 02Keep a neutral expression and make sure the inner and outer corners of both eyes are visible.
- 03Step back from a wide-angle phone camera, use even light, and avoid filters or heavy shadows around the eyes.
- 04Repeat the photo under the same conditions. If the two readings move substantially, treat pose as the likely variable.
Interpretation and safety
Is negative canthal tilt bad?
No. Positive, neutral, and negative canthal tilt describe direction, not whether an eye shape is good, bad, attractive, or unhealthy. Natural variation and different angles between the two eyes are common.
This photo test cannot tell you how to “fix” canthal tilt and does not recommend exercises, cosmetic procedures, or surgery. If you have pain, vision changes, eyelid-function concerns, or questions about a procedure, speak with a qualified eye-care or oculoplastic professional.

Canthal Tilt FAQ
Know what the result can — and cannot — tell you
What is canthal tilt?
Canthal tilt is the visible angle of the line between an eye’s inner corner and outer corner. When the outer corner appears higher than the inner corner, the tilt is positive; when the corners are nearly level, it is neutral; and when the outer corner appears lower, it is negative.
How does the canthal tilt calculator measure eye angle?
The on-device face model detects the inner and outer corner landmarks for both eyes. The calculator measures the vertical change relative to the horizontal distance, converts each result to degrees, and then shows both eye angles and their average.
What do positive, neutral, and negative canthal tilt mean?
They describe direction in this photo, not quality. FaceRating.me labels an average above 1° positive, from −1° to 1° neutral, below −1° negative, and above 7° strong positive. These are transparent display bands for this tool, not clinical norms.
How do I determine canthal tilt from a photo?
Use a front-facing photo at eye level with a straight head, neutral expression, even light, and both eye corners visible. Step back from the camera to reduce wide-angle distortion. The detector then measures the landmarks automatically.
Is a negative canthal tilt bad?
No. Negative, neutral, and positive are geometric directions, not diagnoses or rankings of attractiveness. Natural left-right differences are common, and a photo can change the apparent angle.
Why do the two eye angles differ?
Faces are naturally asymmetric, and expression or camera roll can affect each side differently. The calculator shows both values so the average does not hide a large left-right difference. Retake the photo if the head is tilted or turned.
Can this test tell me how to fix canthal tilt or whether I need surgery?
No. This page measures a photo and does not recommend exercises, cosmetic procedures, or surgery. If you have pain, vision problems, eyelid-function concerns, or questions about a procedure, consult a qualified eye-care or oculoplastic professional.
Is my canthal tilt test photo private?
The free measurement runs in your browser, so the selected photo is not uploaded for the scan.
