How the result works
What this golden ratio face calculator actually measures
FaceRating.me separates the visible measurements from the interpretation, so you can see what produced the result instead of receiving a mystery score.
visible face height from a forehead landmark to the chin
visible face width across the cheek landmarks
height-to-width ratio and proximity to 1.618
What you get
Your measured face ratio, a 0–100 proximity score, and the exact phi reference used for comparison.
Golden ratio face explained
What is the golden ratio in a face?
The golden ratio is the number phi, written as φ and approximately equal to 1.618. A golden ratio face calculator compares selected facial distances with that mathematical reference. This page uses one transparent measurement: visible face height divided by visible face width.
That narrow definition matters. Some golden ratio face tests combine many distances around the eyes, nose, mouth, and facial thirds, while others use a mask or a subjective beauty score. Those methods can produce different answers for the same photo. FaceRating.me shows the measured ratio and the reference instead of hiding them behind a single claim.
A ratio near 1.618 means this one height-to-width relationship is close to phi. It does not prove that a face is perfect, attractive, healthy, or more valuable than another face.
Formula and score
How the golden ratio face formula is calculated
The free golden ratio face calculator uses normalized landmark coordinates, so the calculation does not depend on whether the source image is 800 or 4,000 pixels wide. It measures the same points and compares the resulting proportion with phi.
Measured ratio
face height ÷ face width
Forehead landmark to chin, divided by the distance across the cheek landmarks.
Phi reference
(1 + √5) ÷ 2 ≈ 1.618
The reference is fixed. The measured face ratio comes from the current photo.
Result
ratio + proximity score
You see the actual number, its difference from phi, and a 0–100 closeness score.
This is a photo measurement, not calibrated anthropometry. It does not measure three-dimensional depth, skeletal structure, or every facial feature ratio sometimes included in a golden mask.

How to measure a golden ratio face from a photo
- 01Choose a front-facing photo with the full forehead, cheeks, jaw, and chin visible.
- 02Keep the camera near eye level and step back before zooming or cropping. A close wide-angle selfie can distort face width.
- 03Use even light, a neutral expression, and no beauty filter. Avoid hair or a hand covering the face outline.
- 04Compare retakes made under the same conditions. Consistency is more useful than chasing one high golden ratio face score.
Interpret carefully
Does 1.618 define a perfect face?
No. The golden ratio is useful as a clear geometry reference, but human faces are three-dimensional, expressive, and naturally asymmetric. A single two-dimensional ratio cannot define beauty.
This calculator also does not rank celebrities or claim that one group has a better proportion. The same formula is used for male and female faces, and the result describes the submitted photo—not a person’s identity, health, age, or worth.
If you want to examine other signals separately, use the face symmetry test or the facial ratios calculator. Keeping the measurements separate makes the final face rating easier to understand.
Golden Ratio Face FAQ
Know what the result can — and cannot — tell you
What is a golden ratio face?
A golden ratio face is a popular description for a face whose selected proportions are compared with phi, approximately 1.618. Different methods choose different distances, so there is no single scientifically accepted golden-ratio face standard. This calculator clearly shows the one photo ratio it uses.
How does the golden ratio face calculator work?
The browser maps 478 facial landmarks, measures visible face height from a forehead landmark to the chin, measures width across the cheek landmarks, and divides height by width. It then shows the measured ratio and a proximity score relative to 1.618.
What is the golden ratio face formula?
For this tool, visible face ratio equals face height divided by face width. The comparison value is phi: (1 + square root of 5) divided by 2, or about 1.618. Other golden-ratio face tests may use several feature-to-feature ratios, so their scores are not directly interchangeable.
How do I measure the golden ratio on a face from a photo?
Use a centered, front-facing photo taken near eye level. Keep the full face visible, avoid a wide-angle close-up, and use a neutral expression. The calculator detects the reference landmarks and performs the height-to-width calculation automatically.
Do male and female golden ratio face tests use different formulas?
No. FaceRating.me uses the same visible height-to-width formula for every face. It does not apply separate male or female beauty standards. Pose, hairstyle, facial hair, lens perspective, and lighting can still change what the photo shows.
Is a perfect golden ratio face scientifically proven to be beautiful?
No. Phi is a mathematical reference, not a universal law of facial beauty. Attractiveness is subjective and varies with culture, expression, styling, context, and personal preference. Use the score as a geometry comparison, not a verdict about appearance or worth.
Is this an AI golden ratio face app?
It is a browser tool that uses an on-device facial-landmark model, not a generative AI opinion or a ChatGPT prompt. No app install or account is required for the free measurement.
Is my golden ratio face test photo private?
The free measurement runs in your browser, so the selected photo is not uploaded for the scan.
